“Oisi Padel-Nati”: Today with Till Gygax

Inhalt

In a new, small and loose series, we introduce the players of our national teams. Today Till Gygax aka SkillTill, member of the CUPRA Swiss Padel Team and currently Switzerland’s number 1 in the men’s singles.

Till has been playing padel for almost 10 years. He grew up in Singapore and first came into contact with padel there. “I actually had a tennis lesson, but the coach noticed my lack of commitment on the tennis court and suggested that I play padel instead. I very quickly discovered my great passion for the sport.”

Right-hander Till has been a member of the Swiss national team, the CUPRA Swiss Padel Team, for five years and plays in competitions with different partners, often with Ivan Lopez or Patrik Näf.

What fascinates Till most about padel? “The sport is extremely dynamic, multi-dimensional with the walls and physically demanding. A combination of teamwork, tactical game intelligence and physical skills lead to success. The rallies are usually extremely long and very attractive to watch.”

Sporting goals & tips for padel beginners

“From 2024, I’ll be going full throttle for one to two years. That means playing padel professionally and training in Spain whenever I can. After this time, I will reflect again and then continue as a professional or perhaps enter the traditional professional world. My most important goal is to reach the top 200 in the world!”

And does he have any tips for less experienced players? “I advise beginners to be patient and not always go straight to the point. It’s better to avoid mistakes and recognize your opponent’s weaknesses early on so that you can use them as a basis for your own tactics.”
